How long have you been volunteering at DSI?
6 years
What do you love about volunteering?
I love volunteering for DSI because I love the individuals I serve. Through this organization I have made many new friends, gained a lot of knowledge about Down syndrome and I have learned I have voice for advocating. I believe individuals with Down syndrome have so much to offer that I want to help them believe in their dreams and achieve what they want in life.
Tell us about yourself?
My name is Brenda Copass-Israels. I am most proud to say that I am the wife of Jon Israels, I am the mother of 4 sons, and I am a grandmother of 6 beautiful children. I love being a mom and especially love being a grandma for they are my world. I am an accountant for the State of Indiana but my passion is for helping my youngest son, who has DS, live his life to the fullest. I volunteer with DSI, Special Olympics Indiana and other advocacy groups to help educate and promote inclusion.
What are your future plans?
My future plans are to continue educating and advocating for all individuals with Down syndrome. I want to continue to use my voice to help pave the way for the younger individuals with Ds coming up behind us.
Do you have a connection to Down syndrome?
My connection with Down syndrome is my son, Joseph Copass-Israels 23 years old.
