This month Down Syndrome Indiana would like to highlight Peni Satterfield, founder and owner of Wee Speak Therapy & Learning Center in Lafayette, Indiana.
How long have you been volunteering at DSI?
I started working with the Down Syndrome Indiana Lafayette Learning Program™ as the parent trainer a year ago.
What do you love about volunteering?
I enjoy interacting with the parents but feel like I need to give back some of my time.
Tell us about yourself?
I am a Speech Language Pathologist and clinical director at Wee Speak Therapy and Learning Center. I came into the field to help families whose kids have feeding issues. I have personally had this experience and want to help and support the families going through it now. I have 3 grown sons and 4 grandsons, which keep me very busy. Any free time I have I enjoy relaxing at home with my dogs.
What are your future plans?
I plan on continuing to provide therapy for as long as I am able and to continue to meet the needs of families with kids with challenges through the clinic.
Do you have a connection to Down syndrome?
I have treated many kids with Down syndrome over the years, for both feeding and language issues.
Thank you Peni. We all feel very fortunate to have you involved in Down Syndrome Indiana!
