Welcome and Congratulations
We hope the materials in this section will answer some of your questions about Down syndrome and will assist you as you prepare for the particular joys and challenges of raising your new little one.

Please contact DSI with ANY questions! We are here for you. We can connect you with other parents who have walked in the same shoes and connect you with information and resources! Reach out to us today at Garner@dsindiana.org to connect with a fellow mother and DSI staff Stephanie Garner, DSI Program Coordinator. We love connecting with new and expectant parents, whether it is through a phone call or we can grab coffee or lunch!
DSI New Parent Packets
For over 25 years, Down Syndrome Indiana has worked hard to compile helpful resources and information for new parents that we can provide to you at no cost. This is a great place to start!
Request a Parent Packet below or email us at info@dsindian.org.
Connect With Parents
Down Syndrome Indiana is here to help! If you are wanting to connect with another parent, we can help through our First Call Program! This important program connects new and expectant families who have just received a Down syndrome diagnosis to trained Parent Mentors who offer compassionate support, information, and guidance. For most families, that “first call” is their introduction to the Down syndrome community. Speaking with another parent who has walked in their shoes and can answer questions about the challenges and joys that lie ahead has a huge impact on the child and family. If you want to connect with another parent, reach out to Garner@dsindiana.org!
Connect With Down Syndrome Indiana
Down Syndrome Indiana has several opportunities for engagement! We have specific community groups for expectant, new, and current mothers and fathers, community groups for families based on specific geographical locations, and various programs and community events throughout the year!
We welcome any and all, and these are great opportunities to connect with us as well as other parents! Reach out to Garner@dsindiana.org to learn more about community groups, or check out our calendar!
Down syndrome Timeline
Down Syndrome Indiana has developed this timeline to serve as a resource to parents at all stages of their child’s life. We update this timeline in partnership with healthcare professionals, educators, national Down syndrome partners, and community partners!
Breastfeeding and Down Syndrome
Many babies with Down syndrome are able to breastfeed successfully with a little extra support. You can find more resources here:
