The mission of the Lucky Mama Project is to provide personalized support to mothers of a new baby with Down Syndrome or prenatal diagnosis of Down Syndrome. This project is inspired by my beautiful daughter Ivy, who has Down Syndrome.
I had a prenatal diagnosis when I was 14 weeks into my pregnancy. It was a very fearful time. Luckily, I had a local mom to guide me through the many emotions that can come with this diagnosis. Now, I want to do the same for others.
Care packages will be created and distributed to local hospitals and maternal fetal medicine offices. They will include a gift for baby and mom, resource material, as well as our diagnosis story, a little about life with Ivy, and where we are now. My hope is that by sharing this information, their experience will be a more positive one. Commonly these new moms hear “I’m sorry”, when they should be hearing “Congratulations!”
I am extremely passionate about this project and am grateful to do this in partnership with and as a volunteer of Down Syndrome Indiana. DSI is a local 501 (c)(3) whose mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with Down Syndrome. If you would like to make a donation, I would be so appreciative.
